Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on this part of the island of Montreal known as the West Island. The West Island has a lot of diverse communities. Many who've never known about it may confuse it with an island that is west-facing. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel grew to be a young woman living in Courtice Ontario, outside Oshawa. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. But, a growing spurt caused her to outgrow every dance partner she was able to have. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet, 1 inch." The moment I outgrew my male counterpart and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In Brugel's case it was the guidance of her drama teacher in high school who pushed her in the direction she needed. The teacher was the one who advised her to audition to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. She was chosen to play the principal character for Anne of Green Gables after she auditioned for. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned the Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2000. In the last 20 years, Brugel's roles in the world of television and on the screen have been varied. The character of Rita from the award winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in Season 1 and was only seen on occasion.
